The Virginia Alternate Assessment Program

This presentation on the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) will provide an overview of the changes to the VAAP, the new Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL), and the new assessment. We will discuss what supports eligible students can access while taking the updated assessment to show what they know.

Deborah Johnson is a Specialist for Intellectual Disabilities in the Office of Special Education Instructional Services at the Virginia Department of Education. She provides statewide technical assistance in the areas of Intellectual Disabilities and Traumatic Brain Injury. She also serves as the liaison between the Departments of Special Education and Student Services and Student Assessment for the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program.
