Tammy Burns

Executive Director

Tammy Burns is the Executive Director of PEATC, the Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center. A former elementary school teacher, Tammy brings both professional and personal experience to her role, informed by navigating the special education system as a parent of a child with autism. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Arizona State University. In her role at PEATC, she provides strategic leadership for PEATC’s statewide programs and partnerships, as PEATC supports tens of thousands of families annually through training, one-on-one assistance, and advocacy. Tammy has served in numerous leadership and advisory roles across Virginia over the last two decades.  She is passionate about empowering families and individuals with disabilities to be informed, confident, and active participants in the special education process and in disability services decisions that impact their lives.
