Health Insurance

If your child does not already receive Medicaid, when they turn 18, they may be eligible. Medicaid is a government-funded health insurance program. Adults with disabilities from age 19 to 64 may qualify for Medicaid based on income and resource levels. Parent income is counted when determining eligibility for Medicaid for children under the age of 18. Medicaid also has premium assistance programs that for eligible individuals help pay for all or part of the cost of employer-sponsored health insurance. The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is Virginia’s Medicaid agency. The DMAS website provides information on Medicaid rules, how to apply, how to find providers, and more.
